On Saturday, local Liberal Democrats enjoyed a sunny afternoon in the famous garden of Rye & Winchelsea councillor Howard Norton. The event had been planned as a celebration of the successes of Cllr Norton and Cllr Andrew Mier (Southern Rother) earlier in May. Due to national events, the garden party also became a pre-General Election rally, raising over £1000 for local party coffers. Speaking after the event Cllr Norton said, 'It was good to be able to say thank you properly to our teams of helpers. But it was also good to hear from our parliamentary candidate about plans for the General Election.' Liberal Democrat candidate for MP in Hastings & Rye, Nick Perry, said, 'I am extremely proud of the work that Howard and Andrew are doing as part of the all-new Rother District Council: making it more responsive to the needs of local people. 'We have had a fantastic afternoon, and I am very grateful for the generous financial support people have given. 'Things are very different on the doorstep now
