Following the decision of former Labour Castle Ward councillor Lee Clark to join the Liberal Democrats, the 2016 Conservative candidate for Silverhill has done the same.

Dom Sayer, who came second to Labour's Nigel Sinden, said that the Liberal Democrats' clear position on remaining in the EU was a major factor. "I am a proud European and I believe our ties with Europe need strengthening in these times of a globalised economy," he said. He also said that he wanted to campaign for Nick Perry at the General Election because "he is exactly the sort of person I want representing my town".

Mr Sayer also said that he was interested in standing for the Council again, but this time as a Liberal Democrat.
