The event had been planned as a celebration of the successes of Cllr Norton and Cllr Andrew Mier (Southern Rother) earlier in May.

Due to national events, the garden party also became a pre-General Election rally, raising over £1000 for local party coffers.

Speaking after the event Cllr Norton said,

'It was good to be able to say thank you properly to our teams of helpers. But it was also good to hear from our parliamentary candidate about plans for the General Election.'

Liberal Democrat candidate for MP in Hastings & Rye, Nick Perry, said,

'I am extremely proud of the work that Howard and Andrew are doing as part of the all-new Rother District Council: making it more responsive to the needs of local people.

'We have had a fantastic afternoon, and I am very grateful for the generous financial support people have given.

'Things are very different on the doorstep now than they have been for a long time. We have a clear message about our work to Stop Brexit, and it is resonating strongly.'

The event was also attended by Rother's Deputy Leader, Cllr Sue Prochak who said,

'Thank you to all involved. It was a great afternoon in Howard's wonderful garden, seeing Nick hitting the ground running!'
